Few groups of adults in the United States have a higher rates of employment or lower rates of participation in the labor force than people with disabilities. One in 10 working-age U.S adults (19 million) has one or more disabilities (Brault, 2010)
“In 2010, President Obama signed Executive Order 13548 Section 503 Rehabilitation Act of 1973 increasing Federal Employment of (qualified) individuals with Disabilities.
The goal is to hire an additional 100,000 individuals with disabilities over the next 5 years.
More people with disabilities work for the federal government now than in the past 32 years.” – Michael Murray, Principal Advisor U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) 8/20/2014 training
“The new regulations under Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 will have as great an impact on the lives of Americans with disabilities as the ADA.” – Tony Coelho,
former House Majority Whip and primary sponsor of the Americans with Disabilities Act
it is my hope that employers (private) will hire more people will disabilities because it makes good business sense.
Until next time,
